The Substance Use Treatment Services (SUTS) Youth System of Care mission is to develop and operate a seamless Continuum of Care for the prevention, early intervention, and treatment of substance abuse problems in the youth community that is appropriate for the diverse populations of Santa Clara County.
SUTS Youth System of Care (YSoC) offers confidential alcohol and drug outpatient, intensive outpatient program (IOP), and residential services and aftercare services for youth and young adults up to age 21. Treatment services are provided throughout Santa Clara County at schools, clinics, community agencies and Juvenile Hall. Staff have bilingual/bicultural capabilities. The therapists specialize in working with youth, young adults, and families that are struggling with substance use and mental health issues. All services are provided by licensed and pre-licensed therapists, many of who are bilingual/bicultural, at no cost or low cost. Frequency of sessions is based on the needs of the youth, their level of use of substances, and willingness to change and commitment to recovery.
Outpatient sites offer educational, individual, group and family counseling. Parent education workshops on parenting teens struggling with substance use are available in both English and Spanish. Case management services are available to support and encourage young adults with social, educational and vocational needs. Appointments are available in the morning, afternoon or evening.
- Intensive Outpatient Treatment
For youth with higher levels of need, individual, group, and family therapy are offered up to 7 hrs. per week.
Residential treatment consists of structured, live in programs at licensed facilities for either males and females ages 12 – 21 years old to assist them in recovery from substance abuse. Services include individual, family and group counseling in a supportive setting. Youth and young adults are connected to medical, dental, and mental health services as needed.
The Prevention Strategic Plan focuses on reducing underage drinking, marijuana and ecstasy use in Santa Clara County by working with local communities, educating parents and youth and providing groups in schools for at-risk youth. Prevention services include parent workshops in English, Spanish and Vietnamese about available drugs and their signs and symptoms as well as parenting tips to communicate more effectively with youth. A lending library, and a website to help youth, families and the community learn more about substance use is available. Moreover, the Prevention Division works with community groups and cities to address substance use in our community by providing consultation and education. Please contact the Department if you would like a presentation for your church, school, or community group.
