Law Related Education is a program of the District Attorney that brings lawyers into 5th grade classrooms in San Jose and brings students to the government center to visit the courts and the police in order to provide a better understanding of the justice system and role models. This service is at the following schools: Almaden, Hammar, Galarza, Trace, Anne Darling, Booksin, Hacienda, Gardner, Simmonds, Schallenberger, Allen at Steinbeck, Guadalupe, Greystone and Horace Mann.
Parent Project - $70,000
Provide parent workshops at schools and community centers for youth identified as at-risk for involvement with criminal justice. This service is available at all school districts.
Truancy Abatement - $500,000
This service serves all schools in the County:
- DA Truancy Mediations are presented at local high schools. Families are selected and invited by school officials based on a student's truancy.
- Each year, DA makes presentations to schools about "Nuts and Bolts" training on truancy law. This reaches elementary school districts as well as high school districts. The focus of the training is to teach schools about Education Code requirements and truancy prosecutions.
