PBIS - $75,000
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a decision-making framework that guides selection, integration and implementation of the best evidence-based behavioral practices for improving important behavior outcomes for all students. PBIS is not a curriculum, intervention or practice, but instead is a collaboration between district and school staff in designing behavioral support systems at each tier of an RtI2 system. It is an evidence-based approach for establishing a positive social culture in a district that involves systemic support. The framework includes many evidence-based features such as:
- Prevention focus
- Define and teach positive social expectations
- Acknowledge positive behavior
- Arrange consistent consequences for problem behavior
- On-going collection and use of data for decision making
- Continuum of intensive, individual interventions
- Administrative leadership and team-based implementation
Trainings to establish PBIS systems are $6,000 per school site. PBIS technical assistance is provided to all districts free of cost. The PBIS Program serves families, schools and systems.
Districts currently served in some capacity are: Alum Rock, Cambrian, Campbell, Sunnyvale, Morgan Hill, Santa Clara Unified, San Jose Unified, and SCCOE’s Alternative Education Program. Other districts served include Oakland Unified, Sacramento City, and 4 other districts in Placer and Truckee counties.
Parent Engagement Initiative - $200,000
Parents and community partners are informed about a child’s educational needs to increase academic achievement. The initiative empowers parents to improve student achievement by addressing the academic, discipline, nutrition and safety needs of their children. Participants in the initiative’s robust offering of trainings and workshops learn multiple and specific strategies to support their children’s needs. A multi-tiered program allows parents a chance to learn new techniques first, and then later practice their new skills and improve their strategies through collaboration with other parents. The Parent Engagement Initiative serves children, families, schools and systems.
Districts currently served are: Alum Rock Union School District, Berryessa School District, Cambrian School District, Campbell School District, East Side Union School District, Franklin McKinley School District, Gilroy Unified School District, Los Altos School District, Moreland School District, Mount Pleasant School District, Mountain View Los Altos School District, SCCOE School Programs, and University Preparatory Academy.
Coordinated School Health - $250,000
The Coordinated School Health (CSH) Program provides leadership and technical support to schools and district in the areas of student health and safety, including: California Healthy Kids Survey, Oral Health Assessment Reporting, HIV/STD Program, Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) and the California Healthy Kids Survey. A Coordinated School Health approach-recommended by the Center for Disease Control- is utilized in assisting schools to prioritize, organize and implement effective student services programs and support. The CSH Program serves children, families, schools and systems.
The CSH Program serves all districts in the county relative to student health and safety. The following districts are actively participating in CSH Professional Development: Alum Rock School District, Berryessa School District, East Side Union School District, Franklin McKinley School District, Gilroy Unified School District, Mountain View Los Altos School District, Palo Alto Unified School District, San Jose Unified School District, Santa Clara Unified School District, and Saratoga School District.
