Services for youth at all stages of the Juvenile Justice System process – funding varies
Services include: mentoring, status offender services, case management, legal education, counseling, family counseling, substance abuse intervention, gang intervention and anger management.
Traffic Court - $140,000
Supervising Probation Officer (SPO) serves as the official hearing officer for minor traffic violations, infractions and truancy. The SPO is also adding school outreach and parent education as part of the job duties.
School based Probation Officers - $625,000
A total of five Deputy Probation Officers are placed at the following schools: Independence High School, San Jose Community School, Snell Alternative Education School, Foothill Continuation School and Andrew Hill High School. Their duties include prevention and intervention for at risk youth and supervision for youth under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court. They also serve as the primary liaisons with school based police officers, administration and other school staff.
Day treatment/school based programs - $1,300,000
The Probation Department, in partnership with the County Office of Education, operates two day treatment programs for youth on formal probation. One is the Alternative Placement Academy and the other is the EDGE (Encouraging Diversity, Growth and Education). Although operated independently, both programs are located at the Sunol School Site. The two programs serve a total of 60 youth.
